Postpartum Preparation Workshop

Postpartum is a time of significant physical, emotional, and relational change. This class will provide guidance on what to expect in terms of your physical healing and adjustment to life as a new parent. You will leave this course full of practical tips and the confidence that comes with knowing what to expect in your postpartum season.
 

Part 1: What to Expect with Your Physical Recovery

  • Perineum & Pelvic Floor: Understand how to care for and strengthen your perineum and pelvic floor postpartum.
  • Caring for Your Incision: Guidance on wound care and recovery if you’ve had a cesarean section
  • Adjusting to Breastfeeding: Tips for overcoming common breastfeeding challenges and establishing a successful breastfeeding routine.
  • Returning to Exercise: Safe strategies for gradually reintroducing exercise and physical activity postpartum.
  • Returning to Intercourse: Considerations and advice for resuming sexual activity after childbirth.

Part 2: Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Challenges of Postpartum: Understand why the postpartum period can be mentally and emotionally challenging.
  • Baby Blues: Recognize and navigate the common feelings of the “baby blues.”
  • Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs): Learn about different PMADs and when to seek support.
  • Bonding with Baby: Techniques for fostering a strong emotional bond with your newborn.
  • Relationship Changes: Strategies for maintaining a healthy relationship and navigating the adjustments of parenthood together.
  • Accepting Help: Guidance on accepting and seeking support from others during the postpartum period.

IN STUDIO

Pregnant people and their partners should wear loose, comfortable clothing suitable for moving around.

Accessibility note: Our yoga studio is located on the second floor of a walk-up building. We offer a variety of bolsters, blankets, blocks, back jacks, and a few birth balls for comfortable seating.

Workshop Cancellation Policies

  • Enrollment for workshops closes 30 minutes before class starts.
  • The Prenatal Yoga Center cannot be responsible for providing make-ups or issuing any credit for classes missed as a result of scheduling conflicts, vacations, illness (including COVID 19), emergencies, or other circumstances beyond our control.
  • If you need to cancel your commitment to a workshop, you must cancel at least 2 weeks prior and will receive a refund minus a 10% processing fee. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks notice and the space can be filled from our waitlist, you will receive a refund minus a 10% processing fee. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks notice and the space can NOT be filled, we cannot issue a refund.
  • We strongly recommend you complete your workshops prior to your 36th week, which is considered full term. After that time, refunds will not be issued due to labor (with the exception of premature labor and a doctor’s note which may be eligible for a partial refund or studio credit).
  • If you cancel a workshop that’s part of a bundle, the price of the remaining workshops in that bundle will revert to a la carte pricing.

THE INSTRUCTOR

Caroline Jones

Caroline Jones is a certified nurse midwife practicing in New York City and a childbirth educator with The Parent Collective. 
 
She is passionate about educating parents-to-be, thus empowering them to step into birth and new parenthood with confidence.  She particularly enjoys supporting parents throughout the postpartum transition, and she created the Postpartum Prep Workshop to proactively address many common postpartum experiences and concerns. 
 
Caroline lives in Westchester with her husband, toddler, and dog.
