Thank you as well! It seems that people are so eager to share all of the horror stories, in what could go wrong.
I am a 1st time mother, who is really hoping to have a natural child birth and work solely with mid-wives. I find that this is very foriegn for the area I live in (Southern Idaho), and have been told by mother after mother to be afraid.
I have begun asking not to hear these stories. I have a vivid enough imagination as it is!
So I thank you for your article!
Also there is an incredible documentary out that I believe all women should see/know about. It is called the Business of Being Born and really provided me with the strength I needed to create my own birth plan. I was on the phone, hunting down midwives the next day!

Thanks Again. This is a valuable site!

This article is exactly what I needed to hear. I am 29 years old and have been continually putting off getting pregnant since I got married 3 years ago. I am not a watcher of these shows and when channel surfing I would watch just a few minutes and have to change the channel. I only considered watching them in that moment thinking I need to educate myself so I am not scared. Those short moments just brought fear. Not what I need cause I am so emotional. Thank you for bringing to my attention that there are positive birth stories out there and how they can be used to ease my fears. Very grateful, Jolene.
